Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-005328

A dedicated section within a statute, contract, or other legal instrument that assigns specific meanings to certain terms as they are used in that document. These prescribed meanings govern the interpretation of the document, overriding any common or alternative definitions the words might otherwise have. For instance, a legislative act might define "person" to include corporations and other legal entities, not just natural individuals, for the purposes of that specific law.
