Depreciation reserve

An accumulated amount set aside to account for the decrease in value of an asset over its useful life, often referred to as accumulated depreciation. This reserve is a contra-asset account on the balance sheet, reducing the book value of the related asset. It represents the portion of an asset's cost that has already been expensed.
