Straight-line depreciation

An accounting method that allocates the cost of a tangible asset evenly over its useful life. The asset's salvage value is subtracted from its original cost, and the remaining amount is divided by the number of years it is expected to be in service. This method results in the same depreciation expense being recorded each period.
