Accelerated depreciation

An accounting method that allows businesses to deduct a greater portion of an asset's cost in its early years of use, rather than spreading the deduction evenly over its useful life. This method results in higher depreciation expenses and lower taxable income in the initial years. Common accelerated methods include the double-declining balance method and the sum-of-the-years' digits method.
