Determinate sentence
Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-001600
A sentence for a criminal offense that specifies a precise period of incarceration, rather than a range. The judge sets a fixed term, and the convicted individual serves that exact time, subject to any earned good behavior credits. This contrasts with an indeterminate sentence, where a parole board determines the actual release date within a given range.
