A sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole (L.W.O.P.), meaning the convicted individual will remain incarcerated for the rest of their natural life with no opportunity for release. This is the most severe penalty available in jurisdictions that have abolished the death penalty. It is distinct from a standard life sentence, which often includes a future date when the prisoner becomes eligible for parole consideration.
