Disappearance

The state of a person being absent from their usual place of abode and activities, with their whereabouts unknown. This condition can trigger legal proceedings such as a declaration of presumed death or the administration of their estate. Many jurisdictions have specific statutory periods, such as seven years, after which a missing person may be legally presumed deceased.
