Doctrine of incorporation by reference
Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-001702
A legal principle allowing a document to be made part of another document by merely referring to it, without physically including its contents. This is common in contracts, wills, and legal pleadings to avoid repetition or to include lengthy external materials. For the incorporation to be effective, the reference must be clear and unambiguous, and the incorporated document must be identifiable.
