Exculpatory

Tending to clear a defendant from fault or guilt, or to provide an excuse for their actions. Exculpatory evidence is information that suggests the defendant did not commit the crime or that mitigates their culpability. Prosecutors have a constitutional obligation, known as the Brady rule, to disclose such evidence to the defense.
