Fair trade laws

State statutes, largely repealed or rendered unenforceable, that allowed manufacturers to set minimum retail prices for their branded products. These laws aimed to protect small retailers from price competition by larger stores. The Consumer Goods Pricing Act of 1975 effectively ended most state fair trade laws by prohibiting vertical price fixing.
