Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986

A federal statute that revised many provisions of the Gun Control Act of 1968, primarily by easing restrictions on gun sales and transportation. The Act, often abbreviated as FOPA, permits the interstate transport of unloaded firearms in a locked container, provided the possession is lawful in both the origin and destination states. It also prohibits a national registry of firearms.
