Forcible entry

The act of taking possession of real property without legal authority by using violence, threats, or other menacing conduct that dispossesses the person currently occupying the land or building. This action is distinct from a peaceful trespass because it involves a breach of the peace or intimidation to oust the occupant. In many jurisdictions, a person wrongfully dispossessed by forcible entry can sue for damages and to regain possession through an expedited legal process.
