Freedom of disposition

The legal right of an individual to control the distribution of their property after death, typically through a will or trust. This principle allows a person to designate beneficiaries and specify how their assets should be managed and transferred. While broad, this freedom is subject to certain limitations, such as spousal elective shares and rules against perpetuities.
