Freedom of speech

A fundamental right allowing individuals to express their thoughts and opinions without government censorship or retaliation. This right is not absolute and can be subject to reasonable restrictions, such as prohibitions against incitement to violence or defamation. In the United States, it is protected by the First Amendment to the Constitution.
