Freedom of the press

A right guaranteed by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, protecting the ability of the media to gather and disseminate information and opinions without government interference or prior restraint. This freedom allows journalists to report on public affairs and hold government accountable. It is not absolute and can be limited in cases of defamation, national security, or obscenity.
