Friendly suit

A lawsuit brought by one party against another, where both parties have a common interest in the outcome and seek a judicial determination of a legal question or the resolution of a dispute. The parties are not truly adverse but collaborate to obtain a court order or interpretation. This type of suit is often used to clarify property rights or validate a will.
