Friendly witness

A witness in a legal proceeding whose testimony is expected to be favorable to the party that called them to testify. Because the witness's interests or perspective align with the examining attorney's, the attorney must ask non-leading questions during direct examination. Leading questions, which suggest the answer, are generally reserved for cross-examination of a hostile or adverse witness.
