Gift causa mortis

A gift of personal property made by a donor in contemplation of imminent death, which becomes effective only upon the donor's death from the contemplated peril. The gift is revocable by the donor at any time before death, or if the donor recovers from the illness or survives the peril. This type of gift is an exception to the general rule that gifts must be irrevocable.
