Contemplation of death

A state of mind where an individual makes a gift or takes other actions with the expectation of imminent death. This concept is relevant in estate law, particularly concerning gifts causa mortis, which are revocable if the donor recovers. Such gifts are often scrutinized to determine the donor's true intent and the proximity of death.
