Hamdi v. Rumsfeld (2004)

A United States Supreme Court case that addressed the rights of a U.S. citizen designated as an enemy combatant and detained indefinitely without charge during the War on Terror. The Court ruled that even enemy combatants who are U.S. citizens have a right to due process and must be given a meaningful opportunity to contest the factual basis for their detention before a neutral decision-maker. This decision affirmed the principle of habeas corpus for citizens.
