Holdover tenant

A lessee who continues to occupy a rental property after the lease agreement has officially ended, without having renewed the lease or entered into a new one. This tenant's continued occupancy may be treated as a trespass or, if the landlord accepts rent, as a new periodic tenancy. Landlords can initiate eviction proceedings against such tenants.
