A periodic payment made by a tenant to a landlord in exchange for the right to occupy or use property. The amount, payment schedule, and conditions are specified in a lease or rental agreement. Failure to pay rent constitutes a material breach of the lease, giving the landlord grounds to initiate eviction proceedings and sue for the unpaid amount.
