Sublease

An agreement where a tenant, known as the sublessor, leases all or part of their rented property to another party, the sublessee, for a portion of the original lease term. The original tenant remains primarily responsible to the landlord for rent and lease obligations. Many leases require landlord consent for a sublease to be valid.
