Immigration and Naturalization Service

A former agency of the U.S. Department of Justice responsible for administering and enforcing immigration and naturalization laws. It was dissolved in 2003 following the creation of the Department of Homeland Security. Its functions were largely transferred to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
