Immunity

An exemption from legal duties, penalties, or prosecution that is granted to an individual or entity by law. Different forms exist, including sovereign immunity, which protects government bodies from lawsuits, and diplomatic immunity, which shields foreign diplomats from the jurisdiction of the host country's courts. Witness immunity may be granted to compel testimony by protecting a witness from prosecution based on their statements.
