Legislative immunity

A legal protection granted to members of a legislative body, shielding them from liability for actions or statements made in the course of their official duties. This immunity is intended to allow legislators to speak freely and perform their functions without fear of reprisal. In the U.S., it is codified in the Speech or Debate Clause of the Constitution.
