Impeach

To challenge the credibility or honesty of a witness during a trial, or to formally accuse a public official of misconduct. When impeaching a witness, attorneys may introduce prior inconsistent statements or evidence of bias. In a political context, impeachment is a formal process initiated by a legislative body against a government official.
