Impeachment of a witness

The process of discrediting a witness's testimony or character during a trial to reduce the weight a jury gives to their statements. This can be achieved by demonstrating bias, prior inconsistent statements, a reputation for untruthfulness, or a criminal conviction. The goal is to show that the witness is not credible or reliable.
