Turncoat witness

A witness who was expected to testify favorably for one side in a legal proceeding but instead provides damaging testimony against that side. This individual may also recant previous statements or testimony, changing their story on the witness stand to favor the opposing party. The party that called the witness can then seek to impeach their credibility by introducing prior inconsistent statements under rules of evidence.
