Import quota
Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-002523
A government-imposed restriction limiting the quantity or total value of a specific good that is permitted to be imported into a country during a set period. This trade barrier is designed to protect domestic industries from foreign competition by reducing the supply of imported products available to consumers. Unlike tariffs, which generate revenue for the government, quotas do not directly produce income but instead create scarcity that increases the price of the imported good.
