Incurable insanity

A mental illness that medical experts judge to be permanent and beyond cure, recognized in several US states as a ground for divorce. The spouse seeking divorce must usually prove the illness with competent medical or psychiatric testimony, and some states also require the condition to have lasted a minimum number of years. California lists it, as a permanent legal incapacity to make decisions, as one of its two grounds for dissolution of marriage.
