Inter vivos

Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-002687

Relating to a transfer of property or a gift made during a person's lifetime, rather than upon their death. An inter vivos trust, for example, is created and takes effect while the grantor is still living. This contrasts with a testamentary transfer, such as a bequest in a will, which only becomes effective after the person's death.
