International criminal law

A body of public international law that prohibits certain categories of conduct considered to be serious international crimes and makes those responsible for such conduct criminally accountable. This field defines offenses such as genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and aggression, and establishes mechanisms for their prosecution. It is distinct from national criminal law, though national courts may apply its principles.
