Issue preclusion

A legal doctrine, also known as collateral estoppel, that prevents parties from relitigating an issue that has already been actually litigated and decided in a prior lawsuit. This doctrine promotes judicial efficiency and prevents inconsistent judgments. It applies even if the second lawsuit involves a different claim.
