Res adjudicata

A legal doctrine preventing the relitigation of a claim or issue that has already been finally decided by a competent court. This principle promotes judicial efficiency and prevents harassment of litigants by multiple lawsuits over the same matter. It applies when there is a final judgment on the merits, identity of parties, and identity of the cause of action.
