Res judicata

A legal principle that bars the relitigation of a claim or issue that has already been finally determined by a court of competent jurisdiction. This doctrine prevents the same parties from bringing the same lawsuit again after a final judgment has been rendered. It encompasses both claim preclusion, which bars entire claims, and issue preclusion, which bars specific issues.
