Korematsu v. United States (1944)

A landmark United States Supreme Court case that upheld the constitutionality of Executive Order 9066, which authorized the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. The Court applied strict scrutiny but found the government's need to protect against espionage outweighed individual rights in a time of war. This decision is widely criticized today as a grave error in American jurisprudence.
