Life-sustaining procedures

Medical interventions that serve to prolong life, often when a patient is in a terminal condition or persistent vegetative state. These procedures include mechanical ventilation, artificial nutrition and hydration, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Patients can specify their wishes regarding these treatments in advance directives, such as a living will.
