Mandatory power of appointment

A power of appointment that requires the holder to exercise it in favor of a specified class of beneficiaries, leaving no discretion as to whether to appoint, only as to how to distribute among the class. The holder must appoint the property, unlike a discretionary power where appointment is optional. If the holder fails to appoint, a court may distribute the property equally among the class.
