Discretionary power of appointment

A legal authority granted to an individual, known as the donee, to select beneficiaries from a specified group and determine the share of property each will receive. The donee has the option to exercise this power or not, and is not compelled to make any appointment. This contrasts with an imperative power, which mandates the donee to distribute the property.
