Maritime lien

A privileged claim upon a vessel, its cargo, or its freight for services rendered to or damages caused by the vessel. This lien arises by operation of law, without the need for possession, and can be enforced through an action in rem against the vessel itself. Common examples include claims for crew wages, salvage services, or repairs to the ship.
