Modification

A formal alteration or amendment to an existing legal document, contract, or court order. A modification requires the agreement of the involved parties or a new court ruling to be legally binding, and it must be supported by a valid reason, such as a substantial change in circumstances. For example, a child support order may be modified if a parent's income changes significantly.
