National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund

A federal fund administered by the National Credit Union Administration that insures member deposits, called shares, at federally insured credit unions. Coverage is $250,000 per share owner, per credit union, for each account ownership category, and the fund is backed by the full faith and credit of the United States. All federal credit unions must be insured, as must most state-chartered credit unions.
