Union security agreement

A contractual arrangement between an employer and a labor union that requires employees to join the union or pay union dues as a condition of employment. These agreements strengthen the union's financial stability and bargaining power. The National Labor Relations Act permits certain types of union security agreements, such as union shops, but prohibits others like closed shops.
