One-bite rule

A common law principle, primarily concerning animal liability, which states that an owner is not liable for injuries caused by their animal if they had no prior knowledge of the animal's dangerous propensities. The owner is generally allowed "one bite" or one instance of aggressive behavior before being held strictly liable for subsequent incidents. Many jurisdictions have modified or abolished this rule through statutes.
