Payment into court

The act of depositing money with a court or a designated court officer, typically by a defendant, to satisfy a judgment, settle a claim, or secure a potential liability. This action can stop the accrual of interest on the amount deposited or prevent further legal action regarding that sum. Rules of civil procedure, such as the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure Rule 67, govern the process and effects of such payments.
