Terry stop / stop and frisk

A brief, temporary detention of a person by a law enforcement officer for investigation, based on a reasonable suspicion of criminal involvement. If the officer also has a reasonable belief that the person is armed and dangerous, they may conduct a limited pat-down of the outer clothing, or a frisk, for weapons. This standard of reasonable suspicion is less than the probable cause required for an arrest.
