Perpetrator

The individual who directly commits a crime or wrongful act, as distinguished from someone who aids, abets, or conspires in the offense. The perpetrator is the principal actor responsible for the criminal conduct at the heart of a case. Establishing the identity of the perpetrator beyond a reasonable doubt is a core requirement for securing a criminal conviction against that person.
