Qualified intermediary

A person or entity that facilitates a like-kind exchange of real property under Section 1031 of the Internal Revenue Code. This party holds the proceeds from the sale of the relinquished property and uses them to purchase the replacement property. The intermediary cannot be the taxpayer or a disqualified person related to the taxpayer.
