Qui tam

A type of lawsuit that allows a private citizen with knowledge of fraud against the government to sue on the government's behalf. The person bringing the action, known as a relator, is entitled to a percentage of any recovered damages if the suit is successful. These actions are most commonly filed under the federal False Claims Act, which addresses fraud involving federal government contracts and programs.
